Laboratory diagnostic centres use a set of hygienic procedures to protect the collected material from contamination as well as to protect staff from cross-infection.
Once collected from patients, the biological material is stored and then transported in special conditions. It must not be contaminated – in this case the test results would be distorted, which would affect the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of the patient. That is why it is so important to maintain hygienic conditions during all procedures carried out in laboratory diagnostic centres. To avoid contamination of the collected material, sterile gloves should be used which are not carriers of microorganisms that may affect the test results.
Biological material collected for testing may be contaminated, which could be a threat to the health of staff. To avoid bacterial and virus transmission, use appropriate single-use gloves. Where work carries a significant risk of infection, the highest level of protection must be provided to medical staff. Protective gloves used in laboratory diagnostic centres should be fitted with extended cuffs to protect not only the hands but also the wrists and partially the forearms. Material thicker than in standard gloves will provide better resistance to mechanical damage.
